Pogoń Szczecin secured a 3-1 victory over Motor Lublin in the second matchweek of the 2026/27 Ekstraklasa season. The match played on August 8, 2026, at the home stadium was won thanks to efficiency from set-pieces.
The Portowcy didn't need complex positional attacks to take the lead. The first goal was scored by Darko Churlinov, who tapped the ball in from close range after a shot hit the post. Minutes later, following a free-kick, Attila Szalai headed in the second goal. Pogoń led 2-0 already in the first half.
Motor Lublin struggled to break down the hosts' organized defense. The visitors did not register a single shot on target in the first half. It was only in the closing stages that Makan Aiko reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a beautiful long-range strike. Motor's hope was short-lived, however. Pogoń responded almost immediately, with substitutes Kamil Grosicki and Kellyn Acosta quickly restoring the two-goal lead, making it 3-1.
Coach Oscar Garcia made effective changes in the second half. In the 57th minute, Filip Čuić and Kellyn Acosta came on, replacing Maciej Wojciechowski and Darko Churlinov. Darko Churlinov, who joined the club in the summer transfer window, scored his first goal for his new team. The Macedonian midfielder found the net in the 22nd minute, being in the right place after a missed shot by Dimitrios Keramitsis. His goal gave the team confidence and control over the match's flow. Churlinov is one of several new players brought in to strengthen the squad for the new challenges.
The win over Motor Lublin allowed Pogoń Szczecin to take all three points after two matchweeks. It's a good start to the season for a team that finished fourth last season and fought for European cups.
