Less than three months ago, the teams met at the same stadium in the Polish Cup, where Widzew won 1-0. Of the 22 players who started the cup match in the starting lineups, only seven players started the Ekstraklasa match from the first whistle. For Pogoń, these were Valentin Cojocaru, Dimitrios Keramitsis, Leonardo Kutris, and Kamil Grosicki, while for Widzew, they were Stelios Andreou, Juljan Shehu, and Sebastian Bergier. The first half of the match was very even, with both teams creating chances to score. In the 6th minute, Sebastian Bergier had a chance to score, but did not hit the ball cleanly. Five minutes later, Kamil Grosicki took a shot that hit Bartłomiej Drągowski's hands. The score did not change until halftime, and the goalless draw 0-0 remained. In the 58th minute, Karol Angielski scored a goal that gave Pogoń the win. After this goal, Widzew tried to equalize, but Pogoń defended their lead. In added time, Kellyn Acosta received a red card for a foul, which caused a brawl between the players of both teams. After the win over Widzew Łódź, Pogoń Szczecin moved up to eighth place in the league table. For Widzew, however, the situation is becoming increasingly difficult, as the team from Łódź still occupies the second-to-last place in the table.
