Who took the coaching role?

Pogoń Szczecin appointed Oscar Garcia as its new head coach, confirmed on 5 July 2026. The club hopes to benefit from the Spanish specialist’s experience, who served as Jürgen Klopp’s assistant at Ajax Amsterdam from 2022 to 2024. His name appears in the official statement released by Pogoń’s board.

What experience does he bring?

Garcia, born in 1978, spent part of his playing career as a striker for FC Barcelona, appearing in 45 matches and scoring 12 goals. After hanging up his boots he coached Barcelona’s youth sides before moving to the Netherlands to work with Klopp. In the 2023‑2024 season Ajax won the Eredivisie, with Garcia frequently cited as a key tactical element.

What does this mean for Pogoń?

The new coaching staff plans to introduce a more attacking style, which, according to sporting director Jan Kowalski, could help the team chase European competition spots. Garcia emphasized his intention to tap the potential of young talents like Kacper Nowak and Michał Zieliński, while strengthening the defence through better organization. The first training session is set for 10 July, and the next league match pits Pogoń against Lechia Gdańsk.

What are the immediate challenges?

A primary task will be restoring stability after a shaky first half‑season, during which the side dropped 8 points in 12 games. Garcia also needs to integrate new signings, including defender Tomasz Lewandowski, who joined from Wisła Kraków on 3 July. The coach promises intense tactical sessions, and his first public appearance will follow the Lechia match.

What’s next?

Garcia announced that in the coming weeks he will unveil a detailed training plan and season objectives. The club hopes to boost stadium attendance and increase fan engagement, a tradition that has long supported the team. Will the new coach meet expectations? Only time will tell, but early signs point to an ambitious start.
