Pogoń Szczecin wins court case against Holewiński

Pogoń Szczecin has won its court case against goalkeeper Axel Holewiński, who sought to terminate his contract. The Arbitration Court dismissed all of his claims, meaning the player will remain at the club at least until June 2027. The decision was handed down yesterday, closing a months-long legal dispute. Currently sidelined: Rajmund Molnár.

What happened in the dispute?

The conflict began when Pogoń Szczecin recalled Holewiński from his loan at Polonia Bytom mid-season. His agent, Daniel Weber, argued this violated the agreement. Contract extension talks failed, and club owner Alex Haditaghi threatened that Holewiński would not play if he rejected the offer. The player and his team then took the case to the Football Arbitration Court.

The court fully sided with Pogoń Szczecin S.A., finding no grounds to terminate the contract due to the club’s fault. It also rejected Holewiński’s request for an injunction during the dispute. The ruling is final with no right of appeal.

Haditaghi’s response: „Educate yourselves and apologize”

Club owner Alex Haditaghi addressed the ruling on X, targeting those who had spent months criticizing Pogoń Szczecin, claiming it would lose in court. He wrote: „To all self-proclaimed legal experts, keyboard prosecutors, and loudmouths: yesterday must have been disappointing. Facts won. The law won.”

He added: „To those who attacked us without knowing the facts: educate yourselves, apologize, and get lost.”

What’s next for Holewiński and Pogoń Szczecin?

Holewiński’s agent is now awaiting the written ruling, expected in the coming days. It remains unclear if further legal steps will be taken. Meanwhile, Holewiński participated in the pre-season camp in Austria and has been given a chance to feature in the spring round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa. He has also been registered for league matches by Pogoń Szczecin.

Nikolaos Botis, who was expected to challenge Valentin Cojocaru for the starting spot, is not fully fit and missed part of the pre-season. This paves the way for Holewiński to step in as the backup goalkeeper. Currently sidelined: Rajmund Molnár.
